Advanced STOPS Instructors Tactical Live Fire (1 Day)
Potential Students attending this training must be certified Strategies & Tactics of Patrol Stops Instructors.  This advanced-level class will be physically and mentally challenging, and the STOPS Instructor must overcome multiple obstacles to win the battle.

What will the student learn?

  • Approach patterns on traffic stops, concentrating on dynamics of utilizing angles to counter assaults.
  • Environment and bystander awareness (terrain concerns and escape avenues), controlling space.
  • How to escape from Ambush Positions.
  • How to determine between a Low-Risk and Unknown-Risk traffic stop.
  • Proper placement of violator(s) and backup units.
  • Case law pertinent to police use of force vehicle stops.

What will the STOPS Instructor be required to do?

  • Apply tactics learned during STOPS certification and successfully make shoot or don’t shoot decisions while overcoming fatigue and a stressful training atmosphere.
  • Determine and make adjustments between a Low-Risk and Unknown-Risk traffic stop.
  • Ability to be confronted by single and multiple opponents in a realistic scenario for police officers while utilizing force-on-force training weapons.
  • Maintain a controlled environment while bystanders attempt to distract, record, and control a traffic stop.
  • Consider multiple threats simultaneously, making split-second decisions within the Graham Standard of objectively reasonable force.  This training method increases the real-world dynamics of continually evolving high-stress situations.
  • Examine their mindset and identify areas where they hesitate physically and psychologically during high-stress scenarios.
  • Successfully address threat(s), gain compliance or control, and maintain situational awareness and mental clarity during these practical exams.
  • This course is a hands-on outdoor activity to keep the student engaged and interested in learning concepts to enhance their ability to seek out the criminal element, quickly identify it, and be prepared if a lethal force encounter occurs.
  • Required to bring 100 rounds of target ammunition for their duty weapon
