Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and
OWI Detection
Students will be instructed on the twenty cues of OWI
detection as researched and documented by several national studies during the
past thirty years. Students will also be instructed in the proper application of
state laws regarding Operating While Intoxicated offences. Students will be
certified in the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and the One Leg Stand
exercises. Students will earn techniques to determine signs of intoxication, and
the proper methods of articulating the cues observed. Students will demonstrate
the tests on 'live' intoxicated test subjects. Students will be required to
demonstrate proficiency in the application of the standardized tests, and to
successfully complete a written examination.
